SUMMARY:Innovate to Grow: Strategy in a World of Disruption
DESCRIPTION:About this Event\nThu\, January 7\, 2021 \n12:00 PM – 1:00 PM MST \n\n\nWe are kicking-off 2021 with the third installment of the Growth & Resiliency Speaker Series\, curated by Mount Royal University’s Growth Catalyst program. Here we will explore ‘Creativity’ – challenging businesses to think innovatively to uncover ‘big’ growth opportunities. \nToday\, we are undergoing a paradigm shift. The world is not only changing because of technological innovation\, but this has been accelerated due to COVID-19. \nTo navigate this disruption\, individuals\, companies\, and leaders need to take control of their own destiny. It requires us to make bold decisions in a world of uncertainty. How do we compete with the giants? How do we spur growth amidst increased global competition? Today\, we need to be bold\, brave\, and experimental. \nDisruptive times require disruptive ideas. In this high-energy presentation\, shot completely in a 750-person empty theatre\, Shawn Kanungo provides a bold roadmap for the future. He explores: \n\n\n\nHow can we establish Alberta as a beacon for innovation and entrepreneurship\nHow can we take unexpected approaches to innovation to remain competitive and relevant\nHow do we apply strategies from the new disruptors outside of your industry\n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker \nShawn Kanungo is a disruption strategist. He has been recognized nationally and globally for his work in the innovation space after 12 years working at Deloitte. Shawn’s mandate at the firm was to help corporate executives to better understand and plan for the opportunities and threats associated with disruptive innovation. \nKanungo’s work and interviews have been featured in Forbes\, the Globe and Mail\, The Guardian\, CBC\, and CTV. In 2016\, he was recognized as Avenue magazine’s “Top 40 Under 40.” He spoke at TEDx in 2017 and was named to Inc’s “100 Most Innovative Leadership Speakers” in 2018. \nAbout the Growth & Resiliency Speaker Series \nThe Growth & Resiliency Speaker Series is brought to you by Mount Royal University’s Growth Catalyst program in collaboration with Alberta Innovates\, the province’s innovation engine. The Speaker Series is supported in part by the Government of Canada\, as part of the Regional Relief and Recovery Fund. \nTo learn more\, watch previous keynotes\, or to preview what’s coming next\, visit us on: https://www.growthcatalyst.ca/speaker-series \nAbout the Growth Catalyst Program \nLed by Mount Royal University’s Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship\, the Growth Catalyst is an intensive program designed to spark the creation and set the foundation for executing a growth strategy by CEOs and their senior leadership teams. \nTo learn more about the program and apply\, visit us at: www.growthcatalyst.ca

SUMMARY:Tyler Waye: How to Navigate the Unknown Future of Work
DESCRIPTION:Tyler Waye addresses the topic\, 10\,000 Days: How to Navigate the Unknown Future of Work as a featured guest of the Lougheed College Lectures.\nWork-place disruption now travels at warp speed\, leaving Alberta’s workers stunned by its scale and intensity. It used to take decades for work – its content\, processes\, organization – to transform. These transformations would often occur in eras or locales that were readily identified\, such as the “lost decade” or “the rust belt.” Such identification meant that help could be organized and deployed. Today\, transformation is much more rapid\, and its direction and consequences are much less predictable. It’s happening to all of us. Now. With the average career stretching across 10\,000 days\, how are we to navigate this unknown future of work? Tyler Waye undertook an intensive year of research across 12 countries\, asking: \n\nHow can individuals and institutions build a sustainable foundation for success given unprecedented change?\nHow do we individually navigate our life’s work without knowing what tomorrow will hold?\nAnd what might the government’s role look like within this growing challenge?\n\nWaye’s investigation yielded four critical factors that will shape modern work’s challenges and changes. Join us for this timely\, provocative and motivating exploration of his findings. \nBe informed\, challenged\, and inspired by local\, national\, and international leaders from government\, business\, academica\, and the cultural and nonprofit sectors. The Lougheed College Lectures sponsored by Syncrude present exceptional speakers from interdisciplinary backgrounds. They will share their perspectives and insights on the leadership needed to face the complex challenges of the 21st century. \nThu\, January 21\, 2021  7:00 PM – 8:30 PM MST
