DESCRIPTION:InterGen’s Virtual Wine Wednesday with\nArt Price & Robert Price\, Bōde Canada\nWednesday\, April 21\, 4:00 p.m. MST \nSerial Entrepreneurs | Founders | CEOs | Old Economy | \nNew Economy | Oil & Gas | Agriculture | Real Estate | Father/Son What has this Price duo not done? Join us for an inspiring conversation with Art Price & Robert Price! \n\nArt Price is a prairie-rooted serial entrepreneur who has been a key member of leadership teams of internationally successful companies in energy\, technology and agribusiness based in Alberta. Trained as an engineer\, he was the President of Husky Oil in 1981 at the age of 30\, and continued on to be CEO of the company from 1984 – 1993. Art left Husky Oil with the objective of founding an internationally competitive technology business. As the founder of Axia\, Art’s team was responsible for bringing low-cost and high-performing fibre optics to every corner of the province and international markets as well including US\, Europe and Asia. In 2018\, Axia’s Alberta business was sold to Bell and Art shifted his focus to investing in “New Economy” opportunities that involve transformation through the application of technology and are aligned with sustainable market-based economies. He is Chairman of the Board for Bōde Canada\, the Alberta-based peer-to-peer real estate marketplace recently awarded as a Top 15 innovator by Startup Calgary. No realtor required. Just as we’ve seen with Airbnb and AutoTrader\, consumers are smart\, ready and confident to make these transactions themselves. Previously\, Robert was a senior executive at telecom leader Axia\, which brought high performing low-cost fibre infrastructure to customers in Alberta\, the US\, France and Singapore. Robert thrives in leading high-performing teams that deliver amazing customer experiences and meet critical revenue objectives. Robert has grown up in an entrepreneurial family and is a passionate advocate for Alberta and its entrepreneurs.

SUMMARY:Lougheed College Lecture Series: Dr. Deena Hinshaw
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Deena Hinshaw presents as part of the 2020-21 Lougheed College Lectures\, which has a theme of leadership and public institutions.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nThe 2020-21 Lougheed College Lecture series is organized around the theme of leadership and public institutions. Governments\, courts\, universities\, cultural institutions\, public health agencies\, financial regulators and other offices charged with ensuring the public good face special scrutiny from the people they serve. We expect our tax-funded institutions to deliver value for money\, and to act ethically and responsibly to ensure citizen well-being. And we have high demands for accountability and responsiveness. What does it take to lead such organizations\, especially when the decisions are fraught and the stakes are high? How do public leaders engage the people they serve in decision-making? How do they address dissent and controversy? What are the consequences of “fake news\,” the growing skepticism around expertise\, and political polarization for the necessary work of serving the public good? Our speakers will tackle these challenging issues with hard-won insights from the front lines. \nDr. Deena Hinshaw address the topic\, Leadership in Public Service: We are all in this together as a featured guest of the Lougheed College Lectures. \nThe COVID-19 pandemic has made our interdependencies more visible and has called each of us to make choices to serve our communities in both formal and informal ways. In this talk\, Dr. Deena Hinshaw will reflect on her experience of leadership in the pandemic\, and the ways that she has\, in her role\, intersected with the leaders who serve their communities every day. Drawing on her work as one of the public faces of Alberta’s response to COVID-19\, she will talk about the different ways in which we can amplify and support each other in sustaining and nurturing healthy communities. \nThis lecture is presented in partnership with the School of Public Health at the University of Alberta. \nBe informed\, challenged\, and inspired by local\, national\, and international leaders from government\, business\, academia\, and the cultural and nonprofit sectors. The Lougheed College Lectures sponsored by Syncrude present exceptional speakers from interdisciplinary backgrounds. They will share their perspectives and insights on the leadership needed to face the complex challenges of the 21st century. \nDate And Time \n\nThu\, April 15\, 2021 \n7:00 PM – 8:30 PM MDT

DESCRIPTION:Event Information: \nWe’re giving away 100 copies of Cory Bray’s book at the April 9th kick-off of Founder Fridays. During the fireside chat\, author and Alchemist Accelerator Sales Mentor Cory Bray will cover some of the key elements from his book Sales Playbooks: The Builder’s Toolkit Paperback and end with a 15 minute Q & A session with participants.Join us to learn how a sales playbook can create more consistent top performers faster\, reduce the gap between your top performers and everyone else\, develop sales teams that engage with more prospects\, produce more pipeline\, AND close more deals. Founder Fridays is a series of fireside chats with authors of books that are typically held on the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month\, the initiative is based on the success of a fireside chat with Ian Hathaway (Brad Feld’s co-author on their latest book) that had 300+ participants and gave away 100 copies of The Startup Community Way to attendees from across Alberta. Each month you can register for either or both of two sessions: A fireside chat with an author that shares a link where the last 15 minutes is a Q & A session with the participants and a link is provided so those from Alberta can request a free copy of the author’s book. Table discussions held two weeks later (sometimes with\, sometimes without the author) to discuss the different ways the content from the fireside chat and the author’s book can be applied to Alberta’s Startup Community. SUMMARY:AMII AI Seminars: Two-player\, Zero-sum games
DESCRIPTION:Amii researcher at the University of Alberta Dustin Morrill presents “Hindsight Rationality and Efficient Deviation Types in Extensive-Form Games”. In this talk\, he suggests to field learning algorithms that ensure strong performance in hindsight relative to “deviations” (pre-defined behaviour modifications) in two-player\, zero-sum games. \nAbstract: A successful approach to playing two-player\, zero-sum games has been to deploy a static artifact resembling a Nash equilibrium\, which has led work in artificial intelligence to focus on computing such artifacts. This approach is less sound and has been less successful in multi-player\, general-sum games. We suggest instead to field learning algorithms that ensure strong performance in hindsight relative to “deviations”\, i.e.\, pre-defined behavior modifications. A society of such “hindsight rational” agents converges toward mediated equilibrium\, a traditional notion of equilibrium based on average correlated play rather than factored behavior\, in contrast to Nash equilibrium. We re-examine deviation types and mediated equilibria in extensive-form games to gain a more complete understanding and resolve past misconceptions. We introduce a new deviation type that has implicitly formed the basis for the counterfactual regret minimization (CFR) algorithm. We generalize CFR to the extensive-form regret minimization (EFR) algorithm that is hindsight rational for any given deviation type within a broad and natural class. This class contains powerful new deviation types that are efficient to use in games with moderate lengths. We present an empirical analysis of EFR’s performance with different deviation types in common benchmark games\, showing that stronger deviation types typically impart better performance\, even in two-player\, zero-sum games. \nPresenter Bio: Dustin is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Alberta and the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii) working with Professor Michael Bowling. He works on multi-agent learning and scaleable\, dependable learning algorithms. He is a coauthor of [DeepStack] and he created [Cepheus’s public match interface]. He completed a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in computing science at the University of Alberta where his M.Sc was also supervised by Michael Bowling. As an undergraduate\, he worked with the Computer Poker Research Group (CPRG) to create an [open-source web interface to play against poker bots] and to develop the 1st-place 3-player Kuhn poker entry in the 2014 Annual Computer Poker Competition (ACPC).
