Although targeted at founders\, this session will also be very informative to those new to angel investing\, looking to learn more. All are welcome! \nJoin in the discussion. REGISTER and you will receive a ZOOM call link as your ticket to attend. \n  \nOctober 6th Topic: Surviving and Thriving Post Covid-19 with Non-dilutive Government Funding \nOverview:Government funding programs are designed to accelerate the growth of a company in a number of ways\, from enhancement of technology development\, to supporting commercialization\, or helping a company go-to market both domestically and internationally. Some incentives are a response to world events such as COVID-19. Investors appreciate when companies leverage their investments by taking advantage of these programs. As we gear ourselves up for the fourth quarter of the year\, companies should strategize their finances by getting the most out of government funding programs. Join BDO Canada’s Government Incentives and Tax team as they walk you through the steps to accessing these programs. \nWe will be covering: \n1. Creating a proactive roadmap of various incentives available to meet your company’s needs \n2. Grant programs require planning and support – treat SR&ED the same way \n3. Updates on COVID-19 specific funding & Preparing for a CRA CEWS Audit \n4. Interaction of the SR&ED Program with other incentives \nQuestions: Contact us at info@valhallaprivatecap.com \nPlease note that we have a NO SOLICITATION policy on the calls. If you are an entrepreneur joining the call and want to pitch for investment\, please submit your application HERE

Bee Energy provides graphene consumers with low cost and high-quality graphene-based materials for their applications. Bee Energy’s primary competitive advantage is lower graphene production duration (~1 day)\, patent pending technology\, and graphene tunability for specific use such as high-temperature stability (800 ⁰C). \n\n\nThe Harvest Hub manufactures indoor soil-based growing equipment and smart farm technology for operational excellence. \n\n\nOnsite RSL is a revolutionary approach to onsite remediation of salt impacted contaminated material eliminating hauling to land fill and associated GHG associated with the trucking. The initial focus is oil and gas contaminated sites. \n\n\nOkos works with developers\, real estate managers\, and utility companies to bring the latest smart home technology to Canadians. Automate heating\, cooling\, lighting\, and more with affordable IoT solutions. \n\n\nSEPPURE creates a new generation of nano-filters to revolutionize industrial chemical separation in multiple markets by reducing energy consumption and pollution substantially. Separation processes account for up to 90% of capital and operating costs in the industry. The heat used in industry to separate chemical mixtures accounts for up to 15% of the planet’s entire energy consumption. SEPPURE replaces energy-intensive chemical separations such as distillation and evaporation across multiple industries. \n\n\nVDQ-NRG is re-purposing landfill waste into alternative energy sources and valuable byproducts\, with a focus on being economically viable and environmentally sustainable. \n\n\nZILA Works: You know how we as a society have come to rely on plastics for almost everything\, yet most plastics today are harmful to our health and bad for the environment? ZILA Works has solved this by creating a bioplastic made from industrial hemp. Imagine if we could use a plastic replacement that is safer for consumers\, helps farmers\, and is good for the environment. \n\n\nZoramat Solutions is developing a specialty chemical\, Zoralite\, that behaves like a molecular sponge to soak up target gases\, while letting other gases through. Then\, like wringing out the sponge\, heat or vacuum is applied to the material to remove a near pure stream of the target gas. Zoralite is being deployed in the carbon capture\, biogas or renewable natural gas\, and ammonia markets to perform target gas separations and purifications more efficiently with lower energy requirements and smaller facilities. \n\n\nAbout Foresight \nForesight is a not-for-profit corporation that fosters the growth of SMEs that are developing technology that improves environmental results and reduce GHG emissions. \n\n\n\n\nregsiter

SUMMARY:Breaking Through and Stepping Outside the Box
DESCRIPTION:Jess left a career in the corporate world to pursue her passion of entrepreneurship in the Trades.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nAfter completing her business degree and working in a corporate job\, Jess walked away from it all to pursue her passion of entrepreneurship in the trades. She started her journey by pursuing a career as a heavy equipment operator. After bulky\, ill-fitting coveralls caused her to have some near misses in her job as a heavy equipment operator\, Jess Black decided to take matters into her own hands and create a line of clothing for women working in heavy-duty industries like oil and gas\, and construction. \nKnowing that active wear is the preferred material worn as base layers on job sites\, she set out to create a line that was also safe. \nIn this session\, Jess will share her story and what she believes it takes to step outside the box and realize your dreams as a female entrepreneur. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Leadership in the Olympic Movement in Canada with Tricia Smith
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating its sixth year\, the 2020-21 Lougheed College Lectures are organized around the theme of leadership and public institutions.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nThe 2020-21 Lougheed College Lecture series is organized around the theme of leadership and public institutions. Governments\, courts\, universities\, cultural institutions\, public health agencies\, financial regulators and other offices charged with ensuring the public good face special scrutiny from the people they serve. We expect our tax-funded institutions to deliver value for money\, and to act ethically and responsibly to ensure citizen well-being. And we have high demands for accountability and responsiveness. What does it take to lead such organizations\, especially when the decisions are fraught and the stakes are high? How do public leaders engage the people they serve in decision-making? How do they address dissent and controversy? What are the consequences of “fake news\,” the growing skepticism around expertise\, and political polarization for the necessary work of serving the public good? Our speakers will tackle these challenging issues with hard-won insights from the front lines. \nTricia Smith addresses the topic\, Leadership in the Olympic Movement in Canada as a featured guest of the Lougheed College Lectures.\nFrom doping to bribery; expense and politics\, and tensions over the COVID postponement of the 2020 games\, the Olympic movement has had to deal with some serious reputational blowback. To our credit\, Canadians have been at the forefront of upholding Olympic values against some significant challenges. Join PLLC to hear Tricia Smith

SUMMARY:AMii Virtual AI MeetUP
DESCRIPTION:Learn about the latest tools and techniques in machine learning\, and explore topics that researchers and industry professionals are thinking about or working on. Each meetup features two presenters; at the end of each presentation\, participants will have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session. \nPresenters for this month include: \nNick Kalogirou – Data Scientist at G2V Optics \nWe are still in the early days of determining what ethical practice looks like for the field of data science. There are numerous examples of both benefits and harms of artificial narrow intelligence. As AI-enabled technology continues developing\, ethics provides a lens to ask critical questions of both modeler and model. During this talk\, Nick will explore a brief overview of who is working on AI ethics; the themes of work; where we are lacking development; and what to do as data scientists about this continuous journey of ethics. \nShems Saleh – ML Lead at Vector Institute \nWhen a Machine Learning scientist starts a project with a healthcare professional\, it is not obvious what questions are important to ask in order to help the team get on the same page and develop clear expectations. This talk will discuss Collabsheets\, a list of questions directed at a broad audience that translates insights from experienced veterans in the ML-Health collaborative space into the field to everyone. The goal is to help grow the community by lowering the initial barrier to much-needed interdisciplinary collaboration. Each section divides these questions into topic categories\, with the aim of easier real-world use. \nJoin us virtually for Amii’s monthly AI Meetup and be a part of building Alberta’s growing AI community!
