In the spirit of gathering with friends over food and conversation\, we’ll grab a bite to eat and check-in. \nWhat are you eating for lunch? How are you doing? \nWhat are you noticing? \nHow can we support Black lives\, life and livelihoods in YEG? \nWhat does a just and anti-racist food system look like in this city? \nWe’ll be joined by friends\, food justice advocates and community-builders including: \nKyla Pascal of Nowhere Kitchen and Indigenous Climate Action \nJunetta Jamerson of Black Women United \nSharif Haji of the Africa Centre \n—— \nWHAT: #EatWithMeYEG is a virtual lunch that supports local businesses and helps us stay connected with each other and our communities during social distancing times. \nWHEN: July 22\, 12-1 pm. \nWHERE: Over the phone and virtual. Join details will be sent after registration \nWHY: On March 18 we launched our first virtual lunch — the YEG Chinatown Take-Out Edition. We were inspired by the #IWillEatWithYou movement\, started by the Australian community action organization GetUp! to support businesses and restaurants affected by racism and xenophobia resulting from COVID-19. We were also inspired by our friends in Vancouver who organized a similar event in their Chinatown on March 13. \nHOW: Order take-out or delivery from your favourite Black-owned local restaurant in YEG. A few lists for inspiration. \nAfrobiz \nAsh Does Food \nGuide To Black-Owned Restaurants To Support In Edmonton – by Alanna Morton \nOther ideas? Please share! \n2) If you’d rather donate to a local organization instead of order food\, here are a few suggestions of those who are supporting Black community members and fighting racism. Or just join us for the chat. Do what makes sense for you! \nAfrica Centre \nThe Come Up \nBlack Lives Matter YEG \nBlack Women United YEG \nRibbon Rouge Foundation \nYou can also support Black artists and creators (see a list of Black and Indigenous artists and arts organizations from the Edmonton Arts Council). \nDo you have other ideas? Please share! \nClick on the Zoom link to gather virtually for lunch and a discussion\, drop in anytime between 12-1pm. The Zoom link and dial-in info will be emailed to you before the event\, so keep an eye out in your inbox! \n*This edition of #EatWithMeYEG is supported by the Roundhouse\, a coworking space located within the MacEwan University with a mission to bring together and inspire a community of changemakers and innovators. \n— \nStay tuned for other editions in the coming weeks to support businesses and restaurants in other parts of Edmonton. Or feel free to host one yourself! Let us know how we can help to support.

SUMMARY:AMii Virtual AI MeetUP
DESCRIPTION:Learn about the latest tools and techniques in machine learning\, and explore topics that researchers and industry professionals are thinking about or working on. Each meetup features two presenters; at the end of each presentation\, participants will have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session. \nPresenters for this month include: \nNick Kalogirou – Data Scientist at G2V Optics \nWe are still in the early days of determining what ethical practice looks like for the field of data science. There are numerous examples of both benefits and harms of artificial narrow intelligence. As AI-enabled technology continues developing\, ethics provides a lens to ask critical questions of both modeler and model. During this talk\, Nick will explore a brief overview of who is working on AI ethics; the themes of work; where we are lacking development; and what to do as data scientists about this continuous journey of ethics. \nShems Saleh – ML Lead at Vector Institute \nWhen a Machine Learning scientist starts a project with a healthcare professional\, it is not obvious what questions are important to ask in order to help the team get on the same page and develop clear expectations. This talk will discuss Collabsheets\, a list of questions directed at a broad audience that translates insights from experienced veterans in the ML-Health collaborative space into the field to everyone. The goal is to help grow the community by lowering the initial barrier to much-needed interdisciplinary collaboration. Each section divides these questions into topic categories\, with the aim of easier real-world use. \nJoin us virtually for Amii’s monthly AI Meetup and be a part of building Alberta’s growing AI community!
