SUMMARY:How to raise funds for deep technology growth companies
DESCRIPTION:TEC Edmonton and FormulateIP in collaboration with ChapterAI present a panel discussion on opportunities in raising investment for deep technology (artificial intelligence\, machine learning\, internet of things) growth companies.  Topics covered: \nPanel Discussion: How to raise funds (Pre Series A/Series A) for Deep Technology (AI/ML/IOT) Growth Companies\nPresented by: FormulateIP\, TEC Edmonton\, ChapterAI\nEvening of 19th November belongs to deep technology Entrepreneurs and growth companies! \nDeep Technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI)\, Machine Learning (ML)\, Internet of Things (IOT) are quickly becoming foundational technologies for any business. They have begun addressing a variety of issues around using deep technologies to make software and processes much more efficient. \nInvesting in deep tech growth company requires a different playbook due to its nascent systems and complexity. Many deep tech products are still in their conceptual and prototypical phase\, and are still years away from viable commercialization. And because they comprise layers of hitherto unseen algorithms and mechanics\, investors often find it difficult to fund such nascent companies\, as they do not have the expertise and knowledge to analyze the potential value of such a technology — especially when there is lack of similar precedent products or competitors to compare to. \nTEC Edmonton and FormulateIP in collaboration with ChapterAI are organizing a panel discussion on opportunities in raising investment for deep technology growth companies. We’ll start with a panel discussion during which the experts will talk about the fundraising process (Pre Series A/Series A and further rounds) and what it takes to successfully raise funding\, followed by Q&A. Some topics that’ll be covered during the panel are debunking some common myths associated with fundraising\, prerequisites a company should meet before raising investments and the best practices to work with VC communities. This event will be particularly useful for established startups which have raised seed round and looking to raise next round of funding. \nThe panel discussion will be followed by a light dinner and entrepreneurs will get an opportunity to network with panel members\, other investors and mentors who will be joining the event. \nVenue: 4th floor\, TEC Edmonton \nPanelists: \nNeeraj Gupta (Moderator) CoFounder & Director – ChaperAI l AI Foundry l FormulateIP l Lawcubator l Kfx Labs \nCheryll Watson\, VP – Innovate Edmonton and Edmonton Economic Development Corporation \nJammie Lucient\, Founder – Zyphos Analytics \nRyan Heit\, Director – Merck Invention Accelerator & CoFounder at Valhalla Private Capital \nSchedule:\n5:00 – 5:15 – Networking\n5:15 – 6:15 – Panel\n6:15 – 7:00 – Networking & Light DinnerDate: November 19th

SUMMARY:Teens Learning Code: JavaScript for Beginners
DESCRIPTION:Why learn JavaScript? \nJavaScript is simple but powerful. It is the backbone to all those nifty animations you see on websites and it powers many modern day web applications\, including Gmail\, Google Maps\, and Facebook (to only name 0.00001% of the sites that use JavaScript!). \nMany aspects of JavaScript can be easy for even absolute beginners to grasp but has powerful language constructs that can be used down the road. With JavaScript\, getting started is super simple\, since all you need is a web browser and a text editor. No need to worry about installing interpreters\, compilers\, or any of that mumbo jumbo. \nThe Teens Learning Code Introduction to JavaScript workshop is designed to be a hands-on experience. Join us for this full day workshop and you will: \n\nlearn basic programming techniques and concepts that are translatable to other programming languages\nreview the basic building blocks of how HTML\, CSS\, and JavaScript work together to create richer online experiences\nwrite JavaScript to create a snazzy shopping cart\nget a quick introduction to the popular JavaScript framework library jQuery\nget an idea of what resources are available if you’d like to continue learning at home (and we think you will)\n\nWho is this for?\nOur Teens Learning Code workshops and events offer female-identified\, trans\, and non-binary youth ages 13-17 opportunities to take action on ideas that will shape our future while leveraging the power of technology. Our learning experiences are much more than learning how to code. Our experiences empower teens to learn problem solving skills\, how to turn ideas into reality\, exposure to what a future in technology could look like\, and much more. \nPrerequisites:\nNone! This workshop is designed for beginners. \nWhat’s Included:\n\n\n\n\nRequirements:\n\nNote: If you do not have a laptop to use during the duration of the workshop\, we have a limited quantity that we can loan out.
The option to borrow a laptop will be included in your order form when registering. \n\nHey you! Have you joined the Canada Learning Code mailing list? If not\, join here.\n\nQuestions? SUMMARY:Sobey Art Awards - Event at AGA
DESCRIPTION:Sobey Art Award\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDiscover the shortlisted artists for the 2019 Sobey Art Award! \nStephanie Comilang\, Nicolas Grenier\, Kablusiak\, Anne Low and D’Arcy Wilson are this year’s shortlisted artists. \nEstablished in 2002\, the Sobey Art Award aims to promote new developments in contemporary Canadian art and provide opportunities for artists\, bringing them national and international attention. \nThe program represents a total commitment of more than $650\,000 CA annually. This year it will present $240\,000 in prize money — including a top prize of $100\,000 for the winner. Each of the four finalists will receive $25\,000\, and the other longlisted artists will receive $2\,000 each. In addition to monetary awards\, three artists from the longlist will be selected by the jury to take part in the Sobey Art Award Residencies Program. Finally\, one shortlisted artist will be selected by Fogo Island Arts to attend an annual residency. \n\n\n\nChampions of Art in Canada: the 2018 Sobey Art Award\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChris Hampton\n\n\n\n\nNovember 14\, 2018\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor one evening at the beginning of October\, in the Austrian birthplace of Mozart and home of the popular von Trapp family\, Canadian art was the talk of the Salzburger Kunstverein. Although the local members of the public and the group of European journalists present might not know Whitehorse from Winnipeg\, they gathered to hear Josée Drouin-Brisebois\, Senior Curator of Contemporary Art at the National Gallery of Canada and Chair of the 2018 Sobey Art Award\, discuss the practices of the five Canadian artists selected from regions across the country as finalists for one of Canada’s richest and most prestigious art awards. \nOne focus of Drouin-Brisebois’ presentation was the growing role of such art prizes within curatorial work and among cultural institutions looking to help develop the profile of their artists beyond national borders. This was of particular interest to the audience at the Kunstverein\, one of Austria’s oldest art galleries of contemporary art. “Maybe the best way to draw greater attention to Canadian artists is by also giving them greater visibility outside of Canada\, by increasing their international presence\,” Drouin-Brisebois commented back in Ottawa. “What kinds of opportunities could that lead to?” \n2019 SOBEY ART AWARD GALA \nRob Sobey\, Chair\, Sobey Art Foundation; Catherine Crowston\, Executive Director and Chief Curator of the Art Gallery of Alberta; Françoise E. Lyon\, Chair\, Board of Trustees\, National Gallery of Canada; and Sasha Suda\, PhD\, Director and CEO\, National Gallery of Canada\, cordially invite you to the 2019 Sobey Art Award Gala at the Art Gallery of Alberta. \nOn this special evening\, artists\, curators\, donors and other contemporary art lovers from across Canada will gather to celebrate the shortlisted artists and discover the name of this year’s winner of the Sobey Art Award. \nFriday 15 November 2019 \nCOCKTAIL RECEPTION at 6 pm\nSpeeches at 7 pm\nArt Gallery of Alberta\nEdmonton\, AB \nInvitation only to Donors of the Alberta Art Gallery
