Jeff’s Instagram post on May 15 2022 talks about “what a long, strange trip it’s been”. “It’s been far from smooth. Lots of risk-taking, lots of invention, lots of mistakes, so much we still have to do better. I wouldn’t trade the ride for anything.” https://genius.com/The-grateful-dead-truckin-what-a-long-strange-trip-version-lyrics
Verse from the Grateful Dead from their song lyrics:
“Sometimes the light’s all shinin’ on me
Other times I can barely see
Lately it occurs to me
What a long, strange trip it’s been”
Jeff’s social media post really resonated on the ride from beginning my journey through various diverse career paths, to where I am today. My long strange journey brings learning and knowledge from various industry sectors during my career pivots – all in search of how to build communities and cities. From playing in the sandbox of mortar and bricks in the physical built environment to biotech, to digital, and to virtual communities. Why?
The hyper hybrid world of work and play has changed since COVID hit our life. “The practice of work is trending to virtual communities”. Forbes Trends 2022
And so this is where my passion to lift the 90% of society up begins! Our community network at FutureCite is about bringing together 3 key communities of small business employers, educators and jobseekers to create the Next Generation Workforce.
It’s about connecting the voices and perspectives of jobseekers, small business employers and educators who together can start to bridge the skills gap and shape future opportunities for the next generation. Yes the world is not the same as it was 3 years ago. And yes, I still strongly believe that we are vibrant, resilient human beings who as a community can excel beyond the barriers in front of us and thrive!
We all begin our new journeys somewhere. Jeff Bezos started Amazon in his garage selling books – to now being a global household name. Steve Jobs started his gig in a garage as well! The awesome thing is that we can always aspire or be inspired by citizens, communities and companies who want to make a difference in the world.
So seize the day and begin your journey! Share stories of your “long strange ride” or your ideas for that journey to open doors to new possibilities! Carpe Diem!
