Saving Christmas in Whoville from the Grinches of Alpha, Delta & Omicron!

“You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch!”

We’ve all heard and perhaps seen movies about how the dastardly Grinch tries to steal Christmas from the quaint storybook village of Whoville, a fictional town created by author Theodor Seuss Geisel, under the name Dr. Seuss.   In short, the storyline is about how every year, the Grinch would try to ruin Christmas for the happy people of Whoville.

One year the Grinch did succeed in stealing all the Christmas gifts.  So what did the people of Whoville do to rescue Christmas?  Was it to save the gifts, or was it to save the spirt of giving and sharing through the good deeds of people – no matter how small or insignificant, to bring back the true meaning of Christmas back to Whoville?

Well, for the people of Whoville, it wasn’t about gifts – it was more about kindness and caring, and how the people came together in the song,Christmas Singing in Whoville”, lifting the spirit of the whole village!  Note the lyrics “Just as long as we have we” in the chorus:

“Welcome, Christmas! Fah who rahmus!
Welcome, Christmas! Dah who dahmus!
Christmas Day will always be!
Just as long as we have we!”

Fast forward to 2020 and 2021, a whole herd of cold hearted Grinches arrived – aptly named Alpha, Delta, and more recently Omicron!  The last of these Grinches rode in just days before Christmas this year, bringing new variants in their twisted attempts to ruin the spirit of Christmas – all over the world!  Yet only a week ago, people on earth were all prepared to share in song, food and spirits (the liquid kind) – only to discover that their plans now needed to change quickly for the safety of their “Whoville” people. What can we say to that? Well, for a start, “You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch”!

But wait, there are ways that you can still save the Christmas spirit! Just create your own version of an idyllic Whoville to make you to smile through the Christmas Holiday season!  How?  Well, try creating a mini “Whoville” tree of ferns, add some colourful hyacinth bulbs in bloom, and a Whoville like snow globe (this one has mice in snow) and anything Grinch green! And voila, you’re ready to add glasses of spirits (the liquid kind), your plates of favourite Christmas comfort food, candles and a crackling fire to warm the toes! Wear colourful “Whoville” socks, ugly Christmas sweaters and Grinch toques, and maybe even Grinch decals on your masks to top off the occasion!

Now you’re ready to turn up the volume on your favourite Christmas albums and songs,  pull out your board games, puzzles, books, (ok TVs and Video devices for the diehards) and post and share your selfies, replies, and photos.  Outdoors with a fire pit – even better!  Then sometime days or weeks later in 2022, you may sit back and wonder Whoooo was that smiling person in that hat & sweater in your Christmas photos?

Congratulations, you have now joined the many heroes of Whoville who made someone happy during Christmas!
